Researchers have studied missionary attrition for over thirty years, and the finding that keeps surfacing is that most departures aren't caused by danger or persecution. They're caused by the preventable stuff — dried-up support, unresolved conflict, isolation that went on too long, and churches that meant every word of their commissioning prayer but gradually stopped thinking about the people they sent.
